this year

i expect another round of awkward family holiday moments.

last year wasn’t the first horrible thanksgiving/christmas stretch by far, but after the divorce things got weird with my family. now it’s not much better; my dad is still in south carolina (as is my sister sarah) and i’m still with my mom in texas. my other sister kate is in houston with her boyfriend alex and his family, but because of their busy schedules i rarely see her. we are a bit scattered and that makes things tough. i hope for the best but i seriously doubt anything will turn out okay.

however… if it snows, i’ll focus on the awesomeness of that instead. best gift ever.

other lives - paper cities

yesterday i sat in front of the pacific and listened to this over and over as the sun went down. i am now convinced more than ever that this band knows how to break my heart in all the right places.

this has been my jam lately… it’s tough to keep from humming it all the damn time.

monterey was beautiful too… everything was so clean.
it’s strange to come back to a place you used to live in. especially after eighteen years.

visible world

sunlight pouring across your skin, your shadow
flat on the wall.
the dawn was breaking the bones of your heart like twigs.
you had not expected this,
the bedroom gone white, the astronomical light
pummeling you in a stream of fists.
you raised your hand to your face as if
to hide it, the pink fingers gone gold as the light
streamed straight to the bone,
as if you were the small room closed in glass
with every speck of dust illuminated.
the light is no mystery,
the mystery is that there is something to keep the light
from passing through.
